To follow students reading of their chapter books, I would have each of them make a BookaKucha report on the chapter book pages that they read that week. They would present these to each other in the small group Zoom meetings.
BookaKucha is a once-a-week way to monitor independent reading progress while reinforcing the elements of literature that you are teaching in class.
Students who attended the Weekly Zoom Small Groups would make Google Slides or PowerPoint presentations. I taught the Jigsaw Method of learning and each student would get a 3rd-grade level short video about a topic. Each of them would create their own slides and come to the Zoom meetings ready to present. With each of the students have a different element to present, together they would learn about the topic. Students would take notes on each other's presentation to prepare for Assessments.
"I work from home primarily and had a front row seat as a parent to his skills. I personally observed a teacher with one of the most positive and encouraging demeanors, an adaptable set of skills, a firm grasp of technology, and a wide open style of communication. This is the type of attitude that belongs in today’s classrooms: Inclusivity, respect, creative problem solving and flexibility. Mr. Hansen has that in spades."
